# 2 He wished for Mountains

Jack, fired on his wife’s fortieth birthday, wished he’d climbed mountains instead.  At the time travel shop, he beamed back twenty years and learnt mountaineering for a week. He returned limping to an empty home. The neighbor’s wife was having a birthday party.

# 1 Mary's Last Trick

Crimson puddles on the stage match the curtains.
“She was the magician’s assistant, he’d cut her in half every night.”
“It’s done with mirrors.”
“Tonight, he used a saw.”
“Motive?”
A note -Mary’s  love is an illusion.
“Where is he?”
“We cuffed him. He escaped into that cabinet.”
“And…?”
“Vanished.”
“Bloody magicians”, the investigator growls.
